My name is Merianne Pellegrino. I am the ESE Coordinator here at Riviera Beach Maritime Academy and teach the Intensive Reading course for grades nine through twelve.
I am originally from East Hampton, Long Island, New York. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree from Palm Beach Atlantic University and I will graduate with a Masters in Psychology in May 2008.
I have always loved the sea, boating, swimming, snorkeling and fishing. I throw pottery, paint, and play the guitar as well as the bass clarinet and a variety of percussion instruments. I live with my three children.
The year we will work on reading skills to improve competency and fluency. Students in all classes will work on these goals. We will read selected maritime-oriented material. Book reports, journal assignments and creative writing prompts will be used. We will work on several research projects which will enhance the literacy skills of all students. We will go on field trips and utilize the school’s Learning Classroom – a 40’ pontoon located at the Riviera Beach Municipal Marina – for reading classes at sea. This year is already a fabulous learning experience for everyone.
